OVERVIEW
A.J. Tutill & Sons Ltd is an Auckland-based family-owned cartage company established in 1921. With over 50 vehicles, including Curtain-siders, Hard-siders, Hiabs and Flat Deck trucks, they’ve built a strong reputation for dependable transport and storage services across the greater Auckland area.
To keep up with the demands of modern construction sites, the company recently added an Avant 850 loader to their fleet, giving them a safe, versatile, and efficient way to handle deliveries in tight or difficult-to-access locations.
CHALLENGES
Delivering bricks and tiles to construction sites often means navigating tight, restricted-access areas. The team at Tutill previously trialled several machines, but many struggled with unloading limitations such as needing access to both sides of the road, which created safety risks and inefficiencies, restricted access to steep, slippery, or confined sites, and operator frustration as older units lacked precision control and stability, especially around scaffolding or on ramps.
The team needed a reliable off-road solution that was lightweight, manoeuvrable, and capable of tackling diverse site conditions without compromising safety or efficiency.
THE SOLUTION
After trialling different machines, A.J. Tutill & Sons added an Avant 850 loader to their fleet to overcome the challenges of restricted-access sites and time-consuming deliveries. The telescopic boom allowed operators to unload pallets from one side of the road, eliminating the need to reposition trucks or bring extension forks.
The loader’s compact size and high ground clearance made it well-suited for steep driveways, tight urban sites, and off-road conditions where traditional forklifts struggled. Operators quickly adapted to the intuitive joystick controls, which combine steering and function management in one place.
The Avant’s stability and manoeuvrability around scaffolding and ramps gave the team a safer, faster, and more reliable way to complete deliveries.
